Robert and Gian Luca both love buying books about statistical methods and learning new tricks. It’s just a pity that you can’t learn by putting a book under your pillow and going to sleep…
If you would prefer to get started with a two-day online course on the topic, then consider the course that Robert has been running with the Royal Statistical Society since 2020.
https://rss.org.uk/training-events/training/public-courses/statistical-theory/bayesian-meta-analysis
You can join online this year (2025) on 14th and 15th October. We start by assuming only the basics of Bayes, and show you how to recast standard meta-analysis estimators as statistical models. This can be done in a range of software options, some simpler, some more flexible. We will use R and Stan in the course through a server, but you can easily apply what you learn to other software.
Building on the basic models, you’ll see how to deal with issues like small numbers, missing study statistics, uncertain numbers and typos, bias in the studies, different statistics, individual participant data, and network meta-analysis.
We don’t know of any other course anywhere in the world that covers this material! So don’t miss out. RSS course fees are very reasonable.
